An 80-minute film on DVD
Produced in Australia by James Colquhoun and Laurentine ten Bosch
Food Matters is a hard hitting, comprehensive look at our current state of health. Despite the billions of dollars spent in the search for new so-called cures, we continue to suffer from a range of chronic ills and everyday maladies. Patching up an over-toxic and over-indulgent population with a host of toxic drugs and nutrient-sparse foods is definitely not helping the situation.
Food Matters hosts several world leaders in nutrition and natural healing, including Andrew Saul, Charlotte Gerson (of the Gerson Clinic in Mexico), Dr Dan Rogers, David Wolfe, Prof. Ian Brighthope (of Melbourne), Jerome Burne, Phillip Day (English investigative journalist) and Victor Zeines. These professionals explain that, not only are we harming our bodies with improper nutrition, but that the right kinds of foods, supplements and detoxification can be used to treat chronic illnesses without the need for drugs or surgery. These illnesses include depression, obesity, alcoholism, heart disease, dementia and even those as serious as terminally-diagnosed cancer.
The film shatters the belief fed to us by modern medicine that there is ‘a pill for every ill’. It sets about uncovering the trillion-dollar worldwide ‘sickness industry’, a glaring example being the fact that the US, Australia and some other countries have laws making it illegal to use nutritional therapy for cancer – the only permitted therapies being surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.
Can high doses of Vitamin C really cure cancer? Can two handfuls of cashews provide the therapeutic equivalent of a prescription dose of Prozac? According to author and therapeutic nutritionist, Andrew W. Saul, these claims are entirely viable. He says that our health-care systems are in fact ‘disease-care’ systems, and that there is no money to be made in reducing the levels of sickness and disease. “Good health makes a lot of sense,” he states, “but it doesn’t make a lot of dollars.”
James and Laurentine are nutritionists turned film-makers. Their intention in this documentary is to reiterate the ancient wisdom of Hippocrates – Let thy food be thy medicine.
After witnessing terrible side-effects that pharmaceutical drugs were having on their families’ health, they studied nutrition through the Global College of Natural Medicine in California, and realised that the health challenges within their own families were a representation of what was happening the world over.
Food Matters was launched globally in May 2008.
