Product Information:

Author: Dorothy Edgelow

Much more than a recipe book, it is really a program for life-threatening illnesses. First published 2001 and revised in 2008, it traces the extraordinary and inspiring recoveries of both Ian Gawler and the author from life-threatening illnesses, and explain how they set up the lifestyle at the Gawler Foundation to help others with life-threatening illnesses.

Nutritionally superb recipes are given in a 28-day program. 172 pages including index.

This is more than a recipe book because the first 56 pages are devoted to some riveting health recoveries, the principles and practices of the Gawler dietary program, the foods and ingredients considered acceptable, and a brief description of a range of vegetables, fruits, beverages and juices. Ian Gawler is one of Australia’s most celebrated cases of cancer recovery, having been given two weeks to live due to bone cancer back in 1976.

Then follows a well put together 28-Day Menu Suggestion, which offers an eating program that varies from day to day for 28 days. This program is along somewhat similar lines to the wonderful Gerson program (DVD set reviewed in the Autumn 2009 issue), but is more liberal.

The meal plan is intended to support health and healing, and designed to leave out everything that does not contribute to rebalancing the body through diet. Each day begins with diluted lemon juice, followed by breakfast of fruit or porridge or toast. Some of the main dishes for lunch and dinner, shown in colour plates, look absolutely delicious. In between the meals each day are 6 vegetable and/or fruit juices.

Following the meal plan are recipes for condiments, dips and sauces, soups, pasta dishes, vegetable dishes, legume dishes, tofu dishes, salads, desserts, cakes and children’s recipes.

As a result of Dorothy Edgelow’s vast experience as a gourmet cook and in setting up a chain of health food restaurants, and because of the outstanding reputation of the Gawler Foundation and its Yarra Valley Living Centre, the recipes, meal plan and guidelines for self-healing presented in this book are considered to be exceptional.
